What is a Volunteer?
As we take time during National Volunteer Week, April 17-23, 2022, to celebrate these vital pieces of our organizational puzzle within the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® (PAF Safety Day) program, it’s a great opportunity to thank those who volunteer in so many ways.
A Life Rooted in Agriculture with a Passion to Make a Difference
I’ve never known life outside of the agriculture industry. I grew up in southern Kentucky where tobacco and cattle are plentiful. As a young child, I pulled tobacco plants, begged to ride the tobacco setter, and bottle fed calves. As I got older, I hoed tobacco, begged not to ride the tobacco setter, and would do about anything I could to stay out of the barn when it was time to strip the tobacco.
Nutrien Partners with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation to Provide Farm Safety and Health Education to 4-H Teens
Being a sponsor with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation® (PAF) for its Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® (PAF Safety Day) program could easily be a transactional ritual between a corporation and a non-profit. Writing a check in support of a world class program could be easy enough for many individuals and organizations, however, as is the case with most sponsors of our program, Nutrien has ensured that the relationship between sponsor and program is anything but transactional.
Grab Your Backpack and Notebook…We’re Heading into the Classroom
After nearly three decades, the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® (PAF Safety Day) program is going somewhere we have never been before…the classroom! A primary motivational factor for the new Classroom-based delivery mode was knowing that many children could benefit from a PAF Safety Day experience but may not have been able to yet due to limited resources or other barriers. Furthermore, there are the sobering statistics highlighting the number of children injured or that dies annually due to agriculture-related incidents.
