PAF Safety Day Coordinator Spotlight: Tim Roberts
Some individuals shine brightly in the realm of farm safety education, illuminating the path to a safer future for our youth. Tim Roberts is one such beacon, a dedicated volunteer whose commitment to the cause has impacted countless lives. With 33 Safety Day programs under his belt, Tim’s journey with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation (PAF) is a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for safeguarding our future generations.
Tim quickly realized the importance of farm safety programs after being introduced to the program in 2003 through a co-worker in the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension office. In 2004, Tim moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to work for the University of Tennessee’s Extension Office and continued to host Safety Days. When asked why he hosts Safety Day programs, Tim’s answer was simple: “The youth!” For him, the opportunity to impart crucial safety information to the next generation represents more than just a duty; it’s a mission. He firmly believes that if even one child can avoid injury or harm due to the lessons learned on Safety Day, then their collective efforts have succeeded.
Tim said, “If we can get the information to as many youths as possible, then maybe days, months, or years down the road, it will prevent them from getting injured because of something they heard or saw on Safety Day. We have done our job. It can be 1 out of 1,000, which is a success.”
It’s not just about numbers, though. Tim really cares about the communities he serves. Whether in rural or urban settings, Tim’s Safety Days make a big impact. The heartfelt expressions of gratitude he gets from kids and parents show just how much these events mean to everyone. Tim’s not just hosting one-time events; he’s creating lasting change and awareness.
Partnering with PAF has been instrumental in Tim’s journey, providing invaluable support, resources, and a network of like-minded individuals. For Tim, the collaboration with PAF transcends mere planning; it’s a testament to the shared vision of protecting our youth. The shared passion among PAF members reinforces his belief that they are all integral parts of a collective team to nurture and safeguard the next generation. Tim states, “I have always heard it takes a village to raise our kids. I feel we are all a part of that village. It does not matter your location. We are all a part of the village.”
The connection between PAF’s Safety Day plans and Tim’s local farm safety programming is seamless. As an advocate for youth development, Tim views Safety Day as a vital component of holistic growth and education. “Our mission is youth and youth development. Safety Day curriculum is a part of that development. I wish everyone could see the benefits of Safety Days,” Tim emphasizes.
One memory that stands out for Tim is a conversation he had with a volunteer guide who was unsure about teaching gun safety. Tim took the time to explain why it’s so important. “We want to make sure they know that a gun is not a toy or something to show off to their friends. If we can do that, then hopefully, we can prevent another accidental shooting,” Tim explains. His words made a difference, showing the power of education and understanding to the point that the volunteer guide returned to volunteer again for the following year’s Safety Day.
To those considering partnering with PAF, Tim offers a resounding endorsement. According to Tim, “PAF will be the best organization you will partner with ever. You will work with the best people, have a tremendous amount of resources, and they will stay connected with you.” For him, partnering with PAF isn’t just a collaboration; it’s an investment in a brighter, safer future for our youth.
From 2007-2013, Tim Roberts served on the PAF board of directors, where he continued to promote international youth safety. In 2022, he was one of 19 inaugural Bernard Geschke Volunteer Service Award recipients, recognizing over 20 years of service.
Tim’s journey with PAF is all about education, teamwork, and community. As he continues to illuminate the path to safety for future generations, his unwavering dedication serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for us all.
