Learn More About Power Take-Off Safety

Power Take-Off, also referred to as PTO, is a term used to describe the process of transmitting power from one point to another for running pieces of farm equipment at very rapid speeds. PTOs rotate between 540 and 1,000 rpms. To put this in perspective, a six-foot rope tossed over a spinning PTO will wrap around the shaft in less than a second. Incidents involving PTOs often occur when guards and safety shields, designed by the manufacturer to prevent entanglement, are removed; when someone comes in close contact with a PTO wearing loose-fitting clothing or shoelaces; or having the mindset you are faster than the equipment.
